Thomas Jefferson wrote in the constitution that everyone has the right for "life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness". In his time he was not even sure what happiness really meant, he was afraid to even say that every person has the right to happiness he only said every person has the right to peruse happiness. It seems that Thomas Jefferson was actually stating the qualities necessary to pursue happiness. The dictionary definition of happiness is enjoying, showing, or marked by pleasure; and the dictionary definition of quality is an inherent or distinguishing characteristic; a property. According to Thomas Jefferson every American has the right to peruse happiness, but what did Jefferson mean? What are the qualities of happiness? Jefferson was saying that in order for one to achieve happiness they must have life and liberty. Many philosophers have spent years, and even their entire careers trying to define what the quality of happiness is.

A quality of ones life depends on what they do for others, according to Aristotle. He believed that a good quality is one that leads to the happiness of other people. It is important to make other people happy in order for ones life to be full of joy. There are many kind people who strive to create joy in other peoples lives. This world is full of sadness and terror, and there must be people who ease the pain of others. If one is selfish and lives only for himself, he has no quality of happiness. I remember as I child my mother would say "Do onto others as you wish done onto yourself". These are the qualities that are usually imbedded into the minds of children by parents.

I agree with Aristotles idea that one will be happy when he makes other people happy, however, I think in our society creating joy and happiness is under appreciated. For example, every year around Christmas time, my family donates clothing to a local shelter, or Goodwill store. Our goal is to create joy for other families at this time of year. We enjoy the feeling of knowing that we did something good, and that other people are benefiting from our actions. Unfortunately this happiness only lasts for a short while. We stop thinking about the family who got our clothes, and the family stops thinking about us. Aristotle would say even though there is no long term effect, quality was still achieved. Unfortunately Machiavelli would not agree with him.

Machiavelli believed that something has good quality only when there is a long term result. He believed that the way to achieving results was not important the only thing of importance; are the actual results. His views are ones that not many people would agree with, especially Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson wanted people to live freely, and with equality. He believed that everyone had the right to liberty however Machiavellis beliefs were opposite. Machiavelli had no respect for ones right to liberty; if it got in the way of achieving his goal.

Aristotles quality of happiness is fair and logical, Machiavellis quality of happiness is selfish, yet Lau Tzu would say that the most important quality of happiness is the balance between the good and the bad. Lau Tzu believed that the most important thing is peace, and if peace is achieved the quality of happiness is inevitable. Lau Tzus idea of a balance leads to the belief that if there is peace between people and between nations there too is happiness; unfortunately it is sometimes difficult to achieve a good balance.

Aristotles quality of happiness is making someone else happy; while Machiavellis quality of happiness is making himself happy. Aristotle and Machiavelli are opposites it could even be said that one is better then the other. Lau Tzu believes that the most important quality of happiness is the balance between the beliefs similar to Aristotle and Machiavelli. I agree with Lau Tzu. I believe that quality is a balance between what you want to do, and what you believe is the right thing to do; not only for ones self but also for other people. When one has reached a point in his life that he comprehends that life is not only about himself, he reachs a point of tranquility and happiness.

Quality is an act in relation to the way one decides to live his life. It is what one considers to be important in achieving his goals; and ultimately happiness. If one balances out his needs and his wants then he has achieved ultimate quality, because everything else comes with the territory of balance.

Prejudice stems from many things. It can come from any person at any time. Sometimes it is a part of a person when they are born. A whole town, state, or country could show prejudice towards others. Prejudice in many cases ends in violence. Hitler showed an extreme example when he killed all of the Jews. He thought that they were all inferior and the Germans were the superior race. Hitler did not think all of his decisions all the way through. Prejudice is caused by the lack of knowledge of others.

To Kill a Mockingbird is believed to be a true account of what life was like in the state of Alabama in the 10s because Lee grew up around that time in a small town called Monroeville, the town Maycomb is believed to be based upon. With this, Lee can give more impact to the books events as if they actually happened which they did in the case of the Scottsboro trial.

Most of the Maycomb people are presented as prejudiced in the novel through their behaviour and speech towards the Negroes, as Aunt Alexandra shows in her early treatment of Calpurnia.

To Kill a Mockingbird investigates different types of prejudice throughout the novel. One form of prejudice is the hatred of the blacks in the white community in which violence breaks out as the form of a lynch mob at the jail. The lynch mob threatened to take the law into their own hands by killing Tom Robinson before the trial took place. The mob felt powerful and gained courage in a group but nevertheless singularly they were men. This was pointed out when Scout said, "Hey Mr Cunningham" which singled him out from the group. Scout enquires about his son Walter, touching Mr Cunninghams human nature. He had been caught in this act by an innocent child and here she was knowing nothing and asking about his son and his giving advice on his affairs as a friend. By this Scout disarms Mr Cunningham and turns the mob away without any violence by appealing to their hearts.

All the types of prejudice are subtlety connected with the Tom Robinson case. At Toms trial Scout meets Mr Dolphus Raymond for the first time but judges him from the rumours around Maycomb; without considering that they may be false and not to judge on appearances. Scout can observe the prejudice the town have against this man, he has violated their code of society by living with a black woman. To give a reason for his choice of lifestyle Mr Raymond pretends that he is a drunkard to escape the worst of the towns scorn. This is in some ways a cowardly act on his part but makes the townsfolk more content with his life because they have a reason for his irrational behaviour. Scout learns that folk need a reason for another persons actions, which seem wrong in their minds. Once folk can latch onto a reason for certain behaviour they are happier and more likely to let that person be.

Maycomb society considers itself to be right and just in its actions and rules. In the ladies missionary teas they gather together to discuss the town and how to improve the world by converting everyone to Christianity and abhorring these peoples own traditions and beliefs. The ladies believe that an African tribe that treats all the men and women as mothers and fathers to all the children is wrong and immoral to be one large family, helping each other. Harper Lee includes this in the book as an example of what harm these ladies are doing to other communities with better relations than their own.

Scout learns at first hand what the people of the town think of her father, Atticus. Mrs Merriweather insults Atticus in his own home in from of his sister, neighbour and daughter by referring to him as one of the "misguided people". By insulting Atticus in the presence of his family Mrs Merriweather shows the company how two faced she really is, to be sitting in his home eating his food and then to insult him. Miss Maudie prevents more prejudice at the table as she comments that "his food doesnt stick going down does it?".

There is clear segregation between the races from the very beginning of the novel with Scouts story of the Finch family. Scout said the Finches used slaves before the civil war on their plantation, which shows the early social standing of the blacks in Southern America to be slaves. Over one hundred and fifty years had passed since the civil war but the blacks were treated hardly better than slaves, performing menial tasks and holding menial jobs such as servants or farm hands. Everything is different for the black people of Maycomb. They live in the part of the town furthest away from the white citizens and the most unpleasant with its site being located by the rubbish dump as if they too were worthless. In ordinary town life the blacks have their own buildings for worship and a separate section to sit in the courthouse. The whites take no care of the sacred place they are in during the week where they gamble in the black community church. Tom Robinson ran away when he saw Bob Ewell because he knew just by having black skin he would be accused of something and was scared. When Scout asks if she may visit Calpurnia, her Aunt rules it out with out an explanation but by saying 'You may not. This implies that Aunt Alexandra is prejudice towards Calpurnia and that her shortness and the tone that she projects to the reader suggests this.

Prejudice is everywhere and it cannot be escaped, wherever you go there will be some form of it however mild it may be. Boo Radley was a victim of prejudice himself but could not stand to live in a world with all the prejudiced people out there and out of choice chose to stay locked up in his house for many years, only coming out at night.

Few could escape some sort of prejudice in the 10s and the book shows this by showing prejudices even towards Atticus. His children are teased at school and the ladies of Maycomb gossip about him behind his back. In writing this book, the author investigates not only the types of prejudice but also the causes and the consequences of it.

Harper Lee illustrates in the novel a humans need for a scapegoat to blame his or her own actions on. Tom Robinson was accused of raping Mayella Ewell after Mayella had broken the social code by kissing a black man. Mayella was not brave enough or wealthy enough to take the consequences of her actions as Mr Raymond did, instead she tried to dispose of the evidence. This illustrated in Atticus speech in the courtroom. "She did something every child has done she tried to put the evidence of her offence away from her" Atticus says to the courtroom. He says this implying that Mayella wouldnt except what she did and turned her guilt around on to Tom. Making out that it was Toms fault not her own, she had to pass on her guilt.

One other reason for prejudice is the fear and insecurity of crossing the barrier of tradition in to the unknown. It is easy to follow the crowd like with the lynch mob to stand up for what you believe in takes more courage.

The book tries to deal with how to combat prejudice It shows how an individuals actions like Atticus and Miss Maudie can make more of a difference and through this Scout learns how to cope with it herself. The book is an education in prejudice; Scout and Jem start with not recognising prejudice at the beginning of the book and then learning about prejudiced people in community that they live in. They then learn how to deal with and occasionally combat it, for example, when Miss Maudie and Scout manage to deflect criticism away from Atticus and pay Mrs Merriweather back at the missionary tea.

The book also teaches the reader empathy by showing how Scout and Jem are taught it. Atticus through out the book teaches it to his children and says "you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them" this is what Atticus imply to his children, it is a good moral to live by. The book also educates the reader as well as showing the children being educated. The reader has to stop and rethink back to the beginning of the book when Jems arm broke to understand the connections of how in community of Maycomb could be so narrow minded and how someone could attack anothers children. The reader also reconsiders why Boo Radley never wanted to come out, giving you a different perspective towards the book and the inhabitants of Maycomb.

By writing the book, the author raises awareness of the prejudice that is in Southern America.

By the end of the novel Scout has grown up immensely. She can now understand why some people would rather not live in the world. Scout has seen the hypocrisy of peoples lives with her schoolteacher despising Hitler and yet hating the Negroes on her doorstep. Scout does not know why some people are prejudiced towards other people and why it seems they must always be like that. Even some of that society had rubbed off on Scout in the courtroom; such was the extent of their prejudice it reached a young child. It took her to stand on the Radleys front porch to think clearly at last and to finally "climb into his skin and walk around in it". From her experiences Scout has learnt that prejudice comes in many forms and the reader has accompanied Scout on that journey.

Im sure most people would agree that living in the countryside is generally aesthetically pleasant than living in a town, although that depends to some extent on where in the countryside it is and to a large extent on where in a town it is.

I live in a seven-story block of flats, part of a modern housing development in Bratislava. Those who live in the country often claim, that they would never want to live in town and so live in a flat. However, living in a town or in the countryside has its positive and negative aspects. I am going to tell something about city live.

I thing that town is good place for life. I know, that here isnt very good pollution, that many children be on drugs and that we cant believe other people, but I like a town. It is a big place and I feel very free. For the surrounding villages is a town the center of all activity. People come here from far away to buy many necessities. It seems that most people do most of their shopping in large supermarkets either on the edges of town or edges of Petrzalka. Most villages still have one local shop. People in small villages know the saleswomen, so sometimes they get price reduction. My grandmother lives in one of those villages. Saleswoman in this village is one old woman and she is the biggest scandalmonger. When I want to know some news, I go to this woman. And this isnt in a big town. Here, in Bratislava I go to shop and nobody notice me. Only when I find out that I dont have purse. Then I have a big problem. But in town we have much kind of shops. We have late-night shops or we can just pick up the phone, reserve a table and have a lunch at our favorite restaurant. A town principally means a place where are all kinds of cultural activities concentrated. For example, in Slovakia came a singer-duo Tatu. Their performances were in Bratislava. I cant forget to cinema and theatre. In Bratislava we have 6 small cinemas and big cinemas. But in village they have only 1 (if they have). So. Why "we dont give" one ours cinema? One of negative aspects living in a town is place. Lifestyle in Bratislava is living in a flat. Here is no front or back yard and if there is, its very small. For example, if I want fruit I have to drive down to the market place and buy some, where in countryside I would go in the garden and get it off the tree. When I look out of the window I can see cars, prefabs, factory and many lights. In countryside I can see trees, flowers, birds and meadows. Thats what I like.

I cant say that living in a town is better than living in the countryside or conversely. Custom writing service can write essays on blabla

I like living in a town but I am sure, that living in the countryside is as good as living in a town.
