What is education? What role does it play in society? Is it simply a bunch of mental exercises that the society forces their young to go through in order to promote the intellectually superior and weed out the intellectually inferior. Or is it just task-specific training which will teach individuals how to make money via programming a computer or learning book-keeping skills. Definitely not, according to Aristotle. Aristotle believes that education is the foundation upon which the society is built and has value for its own sake.

Education has long been viewed as means of advancing ones individual status in society. Aristotle has a set of specific views defining and explaining the benefits that one can derive from education. According to Aristotle morality and education go hand in hand. One, in effect, learns to become moral through furthering ones educational level.

Aristotles understanding of law and education stems from his concept of polis as independent city-state. Polis is an indivisible, self-sufficient unit that fulfills all the basic needs of its inhabitants. Aristotle believes that a polis presents an ideal atmosphere for efficient and fair government. The reason for this is that people in a polis will work together in order to achieve common goals. Everyones fate becomes intimately tied to the the fate of their polis. Aristotle asks who is more efficient one person or a well-organized body of people. He answers, that an educated, well organized body of people bound together by common goals and vision has distinct advantage over any one person deciding the affairs of the state. Educated people are more likely to uphold the laws of the polis and therefore can be further trusted.

Just like a polis is self sufficient, a man, Aristotle believes, should also be fully self-sufficient. Indeed, self-sufficiency is one of the highest virtues that a man can achieve. Society affords people social advancement on the basis of education. Having knowledge, especially in fields such as politics, legislature, or philosophy entitles a man to undertake the key responsibilities in a polis. In effect, for a man to be truly productive he must have thorough knowledge in one of what the fields that Aristotle believes to be the driving forces of society.

Aristotle believes that character can be built through studying the law and gaining a better insight of it. Aristotle believes that studying the law will eventually lead to its higher observance. Higher observance of the law translates into a higher society, which in turn results in happy and productive individuals.

As far as the individual citizens are concerned, Aristotle devises several ways to measure their social and personal standings. Character is a highly valued concept. Aristotle believes that if a person is to be come a person of character he must learn the virtues of good behavior as prescribed by the law. It is through education and law that the persons gets to know which action are virtuous and which are not. The ultimate goal that a person should strive for, is telos. Telos can be best described as the beneficent result of a persons virtuous state. So, for example, if one receives good education from early age on, and later in life becomes a master of a science or a philosophy, then this person also achieves a high level of character allowing him to function well in a society. His functioning well in the society of the Telos of all previous preparatory processes.

During the course of his life, a person may take actions to achieve results in different areas of improvement. The knowledge of what action to take is brought forth by education. So in effect, education creates the society. Education gives us knowledge of how to be a productive member of society. It teaches us how to perform various actions. Most directed actions that people undertake deal with several distinct issues actions needed to become virtuous, actions to attain material goods, and actions aimed at improving ones civic standing. Everyone in a polis benefits from individuals strive to achieve Telos through education-directed actions.

Aristotle believes that most actions can be broken down into two basic forms actions caused by desire and actions taken to the extent of fulfilling a need. Aristotle claims that a good society will provide its citizens with education that will teach them to fulfill their needs rather than their desires. He believes that this kind of education will promote moral behavior. He also firmly believes that the mans desire should at no time overshadow his sense of need and capability for rational thinking. That is why highly educated people can be trusted with important positions within the polis. Education by itself, on the other hand acts as a catalyst to ones societal rise. Just as education refines the persons intellectual standing, it also polishes his personality allowing him to be liked by other people and insuring smooth business and personal relationships within the polis.

Aside from stressing education, Aristotle believes that a polis succeeds when it draws on the arĂȘte of her citizens. Since every man who inhabits a polis is unique, everyone can bring different things to the table. Literally, arĂȘte means, "good as it is". In other words each and every one of us has inherent talents and we can use them independently of any status achieved in life.

In order to best achieve the virtue, which will lead to Telos one must find ones mean. The essence of the virtue is ones ability to find a balance between need and desire, which translates into ones inner mean.Possessing an inner mean allows people to exist for the sake of their ultimate goal and that is to reason. Reasoning, Aristotle says is the supreme goals for which humans exist; it is a fulfilling of the human telos. A person who lives well is a person who accomplishes self-sufficiency using the reasoning ability of his intellect. The condition of society and that of persons individual mean are intricately connected. A healthy, well-adjusted society is composed of rational, self-sufficient individuals whose attitudes are shaped by the polis educational process.

Another benefit of an educated society is the adherence of its members to the law established by the polis. Surely educated people see the value of following laws; even today most of the people who are sent to jail very low education.

Aristotle views education as encompassing and irreplaceable. He advances the idea that education is an integral part of a polis and plays a crucial role in moral and intellectual development of a society. He further asserts that a solid educational background allows people to gain ethical character making them eligible to hold important jobs within the polis.

The sun sleeps as the desolate city streets await the morning rush hour. Driven by an inexplicable force, I enter the building along with 14 other hockey players, inching my way toward the cold, dark locker room of the Mc Farland Ice Arena. As we walk in, the lights come on with the hum of electricity waking up from a long nights sleep. All together at the speed of a slug we get into our equipment. Always watching the clock to make sure we dont add any skating on to the already painful practice awaiting. Walking out of the locker room seeing the coach already on the ice, ready for action, makes it seem 50 degrees colder. We quickly respond with a set of warm-up laps and stretches. When we are finished warming up, our coach gathers us at center ice. He offers no friendly accolades, just a rigid regimen of drills, commands, and exhortations.

Four more "wallies" and we are done. A quick shower, and a two minute drive to school. Then its back to the rink; the afternoon consists of dry land training and jogging. Tomorrow we start it all again. Our daily ritual is to make every play as flawless as it can be. Our final objective is to beat the opponent we face at the end of the week. We play along with this ritual otherwise; wed still be at home dreaming thoughts that have nothing to do with hockey. Hockey is a game of strength and strategy. Every play is made to outsmart the opponent. Coaches spend hours making up plays, analyzing and researching the other teams technique, and experimenting with workout schedules in an attempt to win. Yet there are no shortcuts to winning, and workouts are agonizing.

My first hockey practice was when I was five years old. It was so incredibly hard and I loved it. Getting to go crazy, slipping around, and swinging a stick, all without getting in trouble was a dream come true. I had so many pads on I could have taken a 0 mile per hour slap shot. The practices were all basics and I knew it, but the main focus was to have fun, and to win. In that first season I only remember one game. Our goalie was sick and no one else knew what a goalie was. I decided to give it a try, and to my liking I got my first ever shut out. We won our first game of the year and it felt great. I knew it wouldnt always be this fun. At this level, success is measured by how you compare to the other players. You were either A level, B level, or C level. In addition, each new level brings extra requirements such as off ice training, longer weekend training sessions, and more travel from home.

Sometimes during tournaments I would think about events in my personal life. My role model and grandmother died when I was four. Before a big game I would always pray and dedicate any goal I made to her. Closer to home my mother was always there for me. I cant remember a tournament she wasnt at. When a close friend and I scored a goal when we were both on the ice we would point up at our moms as a way of saying thank you for always being there. That one was for you. My parents and grandparents are always there for me. When I share my latest award or triumph story, they smile with pride, as if they themselves had stood on the award stand. I suppose I would have to be a grandparent to understand what my medals mean to them.

My familys strength has also propelled my determination to succeed. I have learned that in hockey, success comes in small portions. In life if I practice hard enough and set my sights on a dream, in the future, I can make it a reality. I am reminded of the quote, "The difference between success and failure is defined by the ability to overcome strong internal resistance."

I know that any goal I set for myself, no matter how small it may be--on or off the iceI can accomplish.

Reminiscing back at the time I was in college, I had a friend named Roger, who had a fetish for adventure. Hence, we decided to go on a college tour to Jim Corbett, a wild life sanctuary, which was a five-hour drive from Delhi. It was mid January and the temperature had dripped to degrees Celsius. We decided to leave Delhi late at night so that we could reach Jim Corbett early next morning.

We were ten of us. At eleven oclock at night, all of us hopped into the station wagon, all set to start an exciting journey into the wilderness of Jim Corbett. Roger just couldnt wait to get there. Oh, what a journey that was!

We were hundred kilometers away from our destination when our car broke down. Everybody panicked as we were stuck in the middle of nowhere. We didnt know what to do. Roger, being the adventurous types suggested that we walk down and search for a guesthouse to spend the night. I wasnt too keen on the idea of walking down those lonely roads at such an odd hour, but I had no option. Hence, there we were, walking down the haunted roads in search for shelter. Though all of us were petrified, we tried to stay as calm as possible.

We had walked nearly ten kilometers and were really tired. There seemed to be no sign of a guesthouse. All of us were losing hope, when suddenly, Roger shouted in excitement, "Weve finally made it!" On looking, we saw a tent house with a couple sitting around a bonfire eating marsh mallows. After having approached them, we introduced ourselves. The couple was very kind and offered us to stay the night with them in the tent. Write my Essay on I couldnt believe my eyes! He actually ate it… for me

Everybody was tired and went off to sleep. Roger, as usual, didnt sleep and was busy exploring the area in search for something rare and exciting. I was just about to go inside the tent house to sleep when I heard Roger scream. I ran out to find that Roger was struggling with a snake in his hand. It looked like a python.
