Miss Brill, as an archetypal character, is seen as an outcast in society. She is written off as a horror by a code that condemns her on the grounds of sex, age, beauty, poverty, and singleness?. First, she is a woman. Women were seen as inferior to men at this time in history. Second, Miss Brill seems to be a woman who is in her late thirties. Miss Brill finds joy in the weather, her fur, and in her secret theater that she believes goes on in the park. She also feels a hint of sadness when she sees the young couples in the Public Gardens. Miss Brill does not dream of finding her lifelong mate and seems to have accepted the fact that she is destined to be alone. Third, Miss Brill is not very attractive. The reader assumes this because she is unmarried and alone. Miss Brill is also looked down by the French society because she is poor. She earns a living with an income from scraps of English teaching and from reading the newspaper to an invalid?. Miss Brill is a flat character because she never surprises the reader, never changes or develops, and can be described in a single sentence. This short story is narrated in the third person from the point of view of the limited omniscient narrator who primarily acts as the voice of the story¡¯s protagonist, Miss Brill. By telling the story through the eyes of the protagonist, Mansfield is able to convey to the reader the protagonist¡¯s loneliness and the lack of self-awareness. She offers no explanation as to the Miss Brill¡¯s past, leaving it to the readers to draw their own conclusions. At the same time the author provides illuminating insights into the protagonist¡¯s character and lifestyle that effectively communicate to the reader the theme of this short story. The central theme of ¡°Miss Brill¡± is the pain of loneliness, and inadvertent attempts to experience life through the experiences of total strangers. The unexpected visit was a plan of great surprise. How she felt so much happiness, but yet felt let down because she had lied to. It all started when gentlemen by the name of Paul saw the most wonderful looking lady by the name of Carla. Paul was a person of loyalty and great personality. He would go out of his way to help out any one in need of it. He was a person of sincerity and also full of surprises. When Paul met the lady by the name of Carla, he was at a point that he never felt before. He had never had the so-called butterfly feelings that every one explained to him. His stomach felt like he had something tickling the inside of his body and it felt very good, but yet very nervous that he did not know how to react to this such feeling. All he could say is "hello and who are you?" she responded, " my name is Carla, and now that you know my name, what is your name?" He responded with his name, and a huge smile that she was even interested to even respond to him.

Ever since that day they spent lots of time together. The one thing that surprised her was that he was very respectful. He never crossed the line like most other guys would try with Carla. Paul would never try to get to close and respected her space when they spent time together. Paul would never grasp her like a man with plans and ideas would have. As time went buy they finally started dating like two birds at springtime. Full of happiness to spend time with each other and all they could think of when they were separated would be how they wanted to be together. Ever since they became a couple, they became very close to each other in a way that they would sparkle in any event they went to.

The only thing that Paul was afraid was the fact of Carla wanting to go to a university that was located in Europe. She had always had a image of herself going to this school and achieving a master in liberal arts. Paul never thought that the day would come when she would say " Paul, I have something very important to tell you. You see I have been accepted into the school I had told you about. This is opportunity that I must take on and try to see if I could make the dream of mine become true." Paul so very upset and did not know what to do. The only thing that crossed his mind was that he was losing the love of his life. "How could she be leaving me?" would be all he could say to himself. She promised him that, nothing would change, that the feelings would still be the same. Carla told Paul that she would return back, but was not sure how long it would take to achieve that goal of getting her master at this particular school. Do my essay on visit CHEAP !

Finally the day came when Paul had spent over eight months with the love of his life, and had to go take her to the airport. The day was raining and cold, just like the way they both felt. Cold represented the fact that they would not have the hugs that kept them warm thru cold days. The rain represented all the tears that came down their eyes that fateful day at the airport. Paul was in state of depression that Carla was leaving, and only kept repeating to her " please dont leave me, stay her were we both can be happy." Besides all of the sadness that day Carla was happy that her dream of going to that school was finally here.

During the flight, Carla wrote a very long letter to Paul. She put lots of thought into why she was taking on this courages trip to a new place to be called home for the next four years. The school was very large in size and the classes very large body of students. After about a week she sent that letter she had written to Paul on the plane in the mail. Paul was so happy to finally receive that letter she had spoken about for a couple of days. He felt like she had written this letter to help him understand why she did what she did. He need a more clearer understanding why some one would want to leave the loved one in their life, and explore a totally different environment in a country outside of America. This made him feel, much better about the situation in the aspect that he finally understood the feelings that he did about the whole situation. He had mixed feelings that represented the sadness but yet happiness that Carla was achieving her dream.

Paul always wanted to visit her at the new school she attended, but with his new job and also attending full time school, that was almost impossible. Things were very tight in the aspect of money. He needed to make enough money to pay off the school bills and the normal day to day stuff. After about one year of writing back and forth, Paul noticed that she spoke very unlike herself on the phone. She seemed like she had something to tell him, but just could not spit it out. Paul noticed that she was always saying, " I really miss you so much and I miss having your company." Carla also had mentioned that she was having a hard time with classes and to concentrate on them with all that was going on with her life.

About her beginning of her third year at school, Paul decided to plan a surprise trip to see her. He finally was done with school, and had much more of an opportunity to go on such a trip. Paul also had a good relationship with her relatives that lived in Portugal were she attended the school. One of the first things that he need to find out would be when Carla would have some time off of school. She had almost four weeks during summer time off, and spent it with her relatives. So Paul decided to organize his trip around that time she had off. During this whole time he always had told Carla that he had a couple of extra courses to take during the summer for work purposes. They spent many days talking about how he did not looking forward to attending classes during the summer time especially now that he had a opportunity to visit Carla since he no long had regular night classes.

Finally the time had come, the day of the trip was just around the corner. Paul was getting very anxious about the trip and seeing the love he so wanted to see for a very long time. The day went as planned, by going to work until the normal time, and placing the phone call to Carla. When he called Carla, he spoke to Carla for a long time to make her believe that it was just a normal day. After about one hour of being on the phone, he said "okay, I will talk to you tomorrow" and said goodbye. He then grabbed all his bags that were packed and rushed to the airport. His flight was for 7 oclock in the afternoon and should have been at the airport hours before the flight. Since he was on the phone for so long he had only one hour to get to the airport, and as you could tell he was extremely late.

When he got to the airport, while he was running thru the airport he collided with a airport attended. When he collided with the attended, he knocked him to the floor. Paul all he could say was " Im so sorry sir! Are you okay? Im so late for my flight and I so apologize for knocking you down like that." Paul got back up and continued running to the gate of the plane. Finally he got to the gate and check in to board the plane. When he got to the entrance of the plane, he was approached bye the person he had nocked down in the terminal. Paul could only think of one thing, " oh man what type of trouble am I in now?" but despite all this the gentlemen that he knock down said " ah you again! I see you made it, now what is you seat number?" he was so pleased but yet afraid that he would be attending him on the flight.

Paul sat in his seat and finally took a good grasp of air, and thought to himself "finally on the way to se my love!" Maybe 0ne hour into the flight, he fell asleep with the exhaustion of the crazy day he had. Six hour latter he finally reached his destination. He grabbed his carry one bags and headed for the exit of the airport. When he saw Carlas cousin that he had asked to pick him up, but as a secret. He screamed his name and said " hey it me Paul, Carlas boyfriend." Her cousin only had a picture of him, since they had never meet in person before. They both got in his car and headed to Carlas house. The drive was almost four hours long, so they stopped at a rest stop on the way.

Finally they got to their destination. Paul was so nervous that his stomach was twirling into knots. Carla was working in the garden that she had build at her moms house and was so busy; that she did not realizes that a car had pulled in the front of the house. Paul told her cousin to walk in first, and then he would follow a couple of feet behind. When Carla saw here cousin she, said, " hey what are you doing here?" he responded, " Well I cam to deliver a package!" Carla was so curious what that would be and responded, "So what would that be?" when she said that Paul came around the corner and said, " So, how do those flowers smell?"

Carla ran over to Paul and gave him such a large hug and a kiss and " said " how did you manage to stay on the phone so late and still make it to the flight?" most of the flights to Portugal all leave no later that seven at night time. " you got of the phone at about six!" The only thing, which she cared about, was that finally she was in the arms of her loved one. She was although very upsets that he had mislead her, about his summer plans stating that he would be attending classes. But despite it all, Carla was very happy to see Paul for the first time in such a long time. They spent about three weeks together, and then they separated again for about every months were she would then visit him and he would visit her on his vacations. I have always believed in the saying of good things come to people that wait. You see I was that person in this story and now can say I am living with Carla and would not change anything of how it all happened.

to kill a mocking is an excellent example of a novel that holds our attention to the very end. its set in 10 america during the gret depretion and racial prejudice and acceptence are the main themes of the book. the first part of this book deals with the mysery and rumour that surrounds boo radely.the children are fascinated by him and the author adds tension by writing about several late night expeditions made by the children to the radely place. during one of these jem looses his pants and must return for them. there is palpable ainx in scouts mind as she waits immpatiencently for her brothers return. this isman interesting way of writng as the reader becomes engrossed by the story and wants to see whats happens and begins reading more quickly. the second part deals with the trial and the build up up to the trial. harper lee grabs th readers attention by the addition of a new character, aunt alexandre.she is a good addition as she represents the old southern archaic notion that the classes and races shouldnt mix. she also gives the female perspective. during the trial the suspence is incresed by the wondering of the outcome and the judgingofthewittnesses by scout andjemdoes she have good sencewhen the jury retires to deliverits verdictthre is an almost palpable air of tension. the third part isthe reaction tothe trial. when th verdictgiven isgulty there is a huge level ofdissappointment for jem. this is primarilybecauseof his astouding faith in the goodness of people.the author then grabs our attention again in a very sad way. we hereof the death of tom robbinson and the hugelyemmotional reaction of his wife hellen. this however is surpassed by the incresing rivalry brtween bob ewall and atticus.the scene in which bob ewall spits on atticus is extremely synbolicas in those times to spit on someone was as bad as declaring war.this is heightened by the fact thet bob ewall swears to get his children.this leads to theclimatic scene out in the woods when the children are attacked by bob but saved by the most unlikely of characters. there are two elemnts of tension here. the well being of jem and the identity of the childrens savior. after we find out that it was boo radely who saved them we also find that he is not so bad after all and the overall message of the book isrevealed to us.
